Rogue antispyware applications are probably the most annoying type of malware in the world. System Check is one of them. Perhaps you have heard of something called System Fix before? If so, here’s a news flash for you – System Check is a direct clone of System Fix, and it is just as cunning as its forerunner. I can hear you sigh in frustration already, but don’t let this rogue get the better of you! Remove System Check from your computer in the first stages of the infection to avoid devastating consequences.

However, even in the first stages of the System Check’s infection it might seem as though this rogue has taken a full control of your computer. The reason for that is that System Check has the ability to hide your files. For example, when you are infected and you click the Start button to open some program, you might be unpleasantly surprised that none of your program shortcuts are there. The most important thing then is not to panic – System Check DOES NOT have the ability to permanently remove your files or programs. It merely hides the files in a temporary storage, so you mustn’t remove any Temp files while trying to get rid of the rogue, because you might remove your shortcuts by accident as well.

Apart from hiding your files and blaming that on some non-existent errors, System Check is the usual fake computer optimization program. It means that it copies the design of your operating system and it makes it look like the program is a legitimate part of Windows. An unsuspecting user is surely bound to trust System Check when he sees the exactly same icons used in the application as compared to those in his My Computer window. And this is where you get trapped.

The moment you trust System Check it will demand you to pay for the full version of the program, flooding you with such fake error messages as:

Critical Error
Hard drive critical error. Run a system diagnostic utility to check your hard disk drive for errors. Windows can’t find hard disk space. Hard drive error.

The messages are obviously not real, and so are System Check’s promises that it can take care of the errors. If you pay for this program, you will lose your money for good, while the rogue will remain in your system damaging it further on. Thus, you have to terminate System Check without further ado, and to make the removal easier, use this code to “activate” the program:
1203978628012489708290478989147

Once you do it, acquire a powerful security tool to delete System Check for good.

According to the analytics firm Flurry, 1.2 billion apps were downloaded during the last week in December.

According to the analytics firm Flurry, 1.2 billion apps were downloaded during the last week in December. Such number is recorded for the first time, as never in a history more than a billion applications were downloaded in just a single week. The sudden onslaught of downloads could be explained by the fact, that a lot of users received new devices for Christmas, and various firms offered discounts for their applications during the holiday season. Almost half of all the application downloads occurs in the United States. China and the United Kingdom were respectively second and third according to the numbers of downloads. The chart for the top download countries is as follows:
1) USA – 509 million
2) China – 99 million
3) UK – 81 million
4) Canada – 41 million
5) Germany – 40 million
6) France – 40 million

Even though the number of apps downloaded exceeded one billion due to the circumstances that unfolded during the holiday season, the analytics firm Flurry thinks that this kind of high download level will become a standard in the near future. The firm stated that:
“Looking forward to 2012, Flurry expects breaking the one billion download barrier per week will become more commonplace. While iOS and Android growth continues to amaze, market is still by all measures relatively nascent.”

Quite obviously, Christmas become a rather lucrative season for the smartphone makers as well. It is estimated that almost seven million Android smartphones and iPhones were activated on Christmas Day. Even though Apple does not release its official statistics, the Flurry’s numbers were backed up by Google, because the company stated that over 3.7 million Android devices were activated during the Christmas weekend.

With such statistics, we can only expect the smartphone market to grow even rapidly in the future.

If you take your computer system seriously you should know something about rogue antispyware applications such as Home Security Solutions. This rogue is exceptionally dangerous so you have to remove Home Security Solutions at once if you happen to be infected. Even though the name of this program is very promising, it is a malicious application that should not be trusted. The sad thing about this rogue is that a lot of users get tricked by it not only because it has an alluring name, but also because it copies the appearance of a known security program and thus it makes unsuspecting users unconditionally trust Home Security Solutions.

Unfortunately, there is nothing good about this program, because as a rogue antispyware Home Security Solutions comes forth only because it wants your money. It slows down your computer and then makes it seem as if there are a lot of viruses in your system, and you must terminate them with Home Security Solutions. This rogue tries to convince you that you are infected using two basic methods – fake security notifications and fake system scan. The scan “results” are usually followed by this message:

Attention! 20 infected files detected!
Scan Result: Your computer is infected!
Recommended: click “Remove All” button to erase all infected files and protect your PC

Apart from slowing down your computer, Home Security Solutions can also block you from accessing certain internet websites so that you wouldn’t be able to find information about rogue removal. Needless to say that it is exceptionally annoying and with such aggressive tactics Home Security Solutions is usually successful in ripping the users off, but you should not become the next victim in line.

First of all, use one of these activation codes to “register” the rogue:
K7LY-H4KA-SI9D-U2FD
U2FD-S2LA-H4KA-UEPB

When Home Security Solutions is “activated” it stops sending fake security messages, and it is a lot easier to get rid of the rogue. Then, terminate Home Security Solutions using a reliable computer safeguard tool if you do not know how to delete the program on your own, and finally, make sure that your computer is protected from various similar attacks.

Seems like there’s a fair chance that we might be seeing past right in front of our own eyes as Russian and Japanese scientists are undertaking an experiment trying to bring the woolly mammoth back. The scientists will try to clone a mammoth from a thigh bone that was found in August. According to the scientists the newly found bone has a very well preserved marrow cells that can become the starting point for the experiment. The team of scientists claims that the cloning can be completed in the next five years.

Experimental cloning with intention to bring extinct animals to life has occurred before as it has been reported in 2009 that the extinct Pyrenean ibex was cloned using 10-year-old DNA from the animal’s skin. However, the cloned ibex had breathing difficulties and it died only minutes after it had been born. The scientists from the Siberian mammoth museum and Japan’s Kinki University are planning to insert the nucleus from the mammoth’s bone marrow into the egg of an African elephant.

However, the Roslin Institute, which is famous for having cloned Dolly the sheep, has published their opinion regarding cloning of extinct species. According to the Roslin Institute it is rather unlikely that the mammoth cloning would be successful with an elephant surrogate. The most suitable surrogate mother (biologically) is a cow, but due to physical differences the pregnancy is very likely not to meet the term.

Not to mention it has been mentioned that it is very unlikely that it would be possible find viable whole cells, because the mammoth had died and it during the time span which was required for it to freeze, the cells where bound to deteriorate which usually happens when animals die.

Nevertheless, Charles Foster from Green Templeton College, Oxford wasn’t as pessimistic about it. “The idea of mammoth cloning isn’t completely ridiculous,” he said. “How the resultant embryos would fare beyond the stage of a few cells is more or less unknown.” It was also mentioned that even if the cloning of the mammoth were successful, the resulting animal would be a hybrid between an elephant and a mammoth rather than a pure wooly beast.

Once again, we meet a bad guy that pretends to be a good one. It’s a classic case of rogue antispyware infection, and the method is the same, but it carries a new name. AV Protection 2012 is yet another rogue that has been created to rip you off, so beware. You might think it will never happen to you, but everyone has this conviction until eventually one day they get infected. Remove AV Protection 2012 from your computer if you happen to have this rogue, and shut the door of your system right in the face of this threat.

It is not the first time that a rogue from this family tries to turn innocent users’ days into hell. AV Protection 2012 is a direct descendent of such rogue antispyware applications as OpenCloud Security, AV Security 2012, Guard Online and many others. Just like its predecessors, AV Protection 2012 might come across as a state-of-the-art security program, but it cannot remove the issues that it has caused itself, so when you see AV Protection 2012 perform a full system scan, keep in mind that it is not real. The rogue will also spam you with numerous fake security messages, such as for example:

Windows Security Alert
To help protect your computer, Windows Firewall has blocked some features of this program.
Do you want to keep blocking this program?
Name: Zeus Trojan
Publisher: Unauthorized

svchost.exe
svchost.exe was replaced with unauthorized program.
It has encountered a problem and needs to close.
If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost.
Please tell Microsoft about this problem.
We have created an error report that you can send to us. We will treat this report as confidential and anonymous.

The messages are to be ignored as well, because they are there only to make you think that your computer is in danger. To tell you the truth, it actually is, but the only thing you need to be wary of is AV Protection 2012 itself. You simply must delete AV Protection 2012 from your system, and then make sure that you safeguard your computer against similar threats.

4 million pages of the 18th and 19th century newspapers are now available online by the British Library. Almost 200 newspapers from Britain and Ireland can now be read by the public, because the Library scanned and uploaded the contents to its official webpage.

Whoever said the Brits were stuck in the mud? Judging from their latest endeavor, they are far from being ignorant of modern technologies. What is more, it seems that the British surely know how to combine the old and the new. We can say that, because 4 million pages of the 18th and 19th century newspapers are now available online by the British Library. Almost 200 newspapers from Britain and Ireland can now be read by the public, because the Library scanned and uploaded the contents to its official webpage.

According to Ed King who is the head of the British Library, the newspaper collection has been opened up for the public “as never before”. He said that “Rather than having to view the items on site at the Library, turning each page, people across the UK and around the world will be able to explore for themselves the goldmine of stories and information contained in these pages. The ability to search across millions of articles will yield results for each user that might previously have been the work of weeks or months, in a matter of seconds and the click of a mouse”.

The archive that has been opened to public is free to search, however, if a user wants to access a particular page, he will be charged a certain amount of money. However, the charge is understandable, because a team of librarians has spent over a year at the British Library’s newspaper library, scanning up to 8000 pages a day. And that is not the end. The British Library expects to scan up to 40 million pages in the oncoming 10 years. Their efforts are definitely commendable, and experts agree that the digital library archive is an extensively rich and utterly exciting resource.

With the rise of Cloud technologies wherein you can store your data on the internet for indefinite period of time, there also comes a wave of dangerous computer threats that makes use of the “cloud” popularity just to get into your computer. Cloud AV 2012 sounds like a computer security program that is supposed to keep your data and your computer safe, but the reality is that this program is a rogue antispyware and you must remove Cloud AV 2012 from your computer at once.

It is true that Cloud AV 2012 tries to come across as a reliable program, but you should not pay attention to whatever it does even if it says that your computer is infected with dangerous viruses. You see, the main thing Cloud AV 2012 does is performing a fake system scan, during which it supposedly finds such malware threats as Trojan.JBS.Ghost, Trojan-Download.JS.Remora, Trojan.Downloader.JS.Agent and many more. It is quite obvious that these Trojans are not there in your computer, because Cloud AV 2012 generates the results itself with intention to scare you into believing that only Cloud AV 2012 can help you with this.

This rogue can also successfully block your exe files from running, disallowing to open your internet browser for example. It states that the file is infected and it is dangerous to open it, but you should know better. You have to realize that Cloud AV 2012 is blocking your internet browser because it is afraid you might search for ways how to remove the rogue. Hence it tries to kill your internet, but you should totally ignore the following message, regarding your internet browser received from the rogue:

Warning!
The file “firefox.exe” is infected. Running of application is impossible.
Please activate your antivirus software.

Aside from blocking your internet browser, Cloud AV 2012 is also capable of doing many other negative things that can eventually end up in a total system crash. Therefore, you have to terminate Cloud AV 2012 as soon as you can, and if you have no idea how to do it on your own, get yourself a reliable security tool that will take care of your system for you.

Google has launched an online music store in the US. The new music store supports devices that run on Google’s Android software, and anyone who has an Android device can buy, store and stream MP3 files form the new Google music store. Currently the store has over 13 million songs and the content is provided by such major labels as Universal, Sony Music Entertainment and EMI. In addition, 23 independent labels also provide their production for the store. Yet, it should be noted that Warner Music Group has decided not to participate in this venture.

As currently the online music store section in the US is dominated by Apple’s iTunes store, which was opened in 2003, the new service is supposed to pose challenge to the Apple’s store. Currently the sales of iTunes are driven by the popularity of the iPod maker’s mobile devices. However, according to a new study more than 60 million smartphones, sold between July and September, are running on Android. In contrast, Apple’s iOS handsets accounted for only 15% of the devices sold during the past summer.

Google’s entry into the online music industry should not come as a surprise, because as of late it is not the only technology company to do so. Blackberry just recently launched a BBM Music service in the UK, and the new service is also available in the US, Canada and Australia. Nokia is also dealing with the music market, although in a slightly different way, as it offers the owners of Lumia 800 Windows Phone to use the Mix Radio application. This software scans the music collection that the user has, and then it creates a customized radio station, choosing tracks from Nokia’s music library that is comprised of over 15 million songs.

As far as the Google’s new move is concerned, chief executive of 7digital MP3 store Ben Drury has expressed that other should benefit from it. He said that, “Google’s long overdue entry in the market is welcome as the company has a special market role, in helping combat piracy through the power to control search listings, Adwords advertising and dodgy MP3 apps on the Android market, and also in showing consumers there is choice beyond iTunes.”

The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) is set to help the internet users worldwide by giving out warnings whenever the website you are trying to access is not about to respect your privacy. The warnings will be given out by the new tool developed by this body that sets web standards. It should help the users to control the way their personal information is used on the web. The new tool is supposed to shield the personal data. It also should be able to let the user know which site does not follow the privacy settings.

Now that the tool has been created the W3C expects the users, browser makers and other internet-related business to help them in finalizing the implementation of the new specifications. Dr Matthias Schunter from IBM, who is the head of the W3C group that comes up with the Do Not Track technologies, says that “users have the feeling they are being tracking and some users have privacy concerns and would like to solve them.”

According to W3C, the new web security tool will be able to configure browser settings in a way that will tell the websites to apply less tracking than the usual. It will also make the websites acknowledge the user’s privacy requests. It will allow determine practices for websites so that they can comply with difference privacy needs applying the best practice they can come up with. The reason why the new tool has been developed is that when websites need to implement different protocols, there is no widely accepted standard way to respect privacy preferences. In a way, with the new tool released, W3C wants to make all the websites follow the same preferences in all languages, so that computer users worldwide would have the same possibilities to protect their privacy.

It is expected that the new technologies will be implemented in all web browsers in the mid-2012. There are more than 15 various companies and organizations involved in the Do Not Track program, including such well-known names as Apple, Adobe, Facebook, Google, Microsoft and Stanford University.

Research firm Envisional has recently conducted a research the results of which show the staggering number of illegally downloaded video games in the last five years. According to the research the number has gone up nearly by 20%. These numbers raise worries among the game manufacturers that soon they will be presented with a generation of gamers who will expect the games to be served for free. Although some of the gamers say that the problem is exaggerated by the game makers themselves.

Some of the gamers download games so that they can buy them later on. Their argument is that they cannot be bothered to buy the games before trying them out. Even though officially the people who download games might get sued for piracy that rarely happens. It can also be compared to millions of users who still download music illegally – they argue that if there’s a song or an album they like a lot, they buy it. So the same can be applied to gamers – if there is a game they enjoy, they purchase it. If not, the game simply gets deleted.

However, the gaming industry regards all the illegal downloads as theft and there are no “buts”. That is why they are trying to offer fair-priced alternatives to illegal downloads, for example, such games as FIFA, Modern Warfare or Black Ops. Apart from being a theft, illegal downloading also costs hundreds of jobs and millions of dollars of profit. Keeping in mind that it takes years and a lot of investment, it is not hard to understand the frustration of the gaming industry.
